Hey everyone!
I am Coach Madison, the founder of Beyond the League, and I am so happy you are here. I created Beyond the League to be a safe space to help high school, collegiate and professional athletes prepare for transitions in sport, whether it be to the next level or into retirement- by choice or because of injury.
When I retired from a 15 year dance career, I felt lost. I was moving to college and living on my own for the first time. My entire social support system looked different:
• I was not with my friends in the studio for 4 hours a day anymore.
• My schedule had no structure - Who knew college classes only took up a few hours of your day?!
• I had no idea how to exercise - What is a gym?! How do you lift weights?!
This transition felt like starting from scratch and I went through many mental, emotional and physical changes during the first year out from sport. I still have days where I miss the studio and the outlet it provided and it has been almost 10 years since I "retired".
Finding a love for running, pushing myself out of my comfort zone to meet new people, learning how to plan my days and my time where it was most effective for me helped make this transition a little bit easier. I had such a hard time during this time in my life and decided then that I would help make this transition a little bit better for others one day.
Cue: Beyond the League!
I want athletes to feel prepared for "next steps" rather than being swept away in the moment without a clear path to follow. Are you graduating high school and retiring from your favorite sport? Are you going to play in college? Are you hoping to be drafted to a professional team? Are you completing a professional career?
I design programs and structure that will help you prepare for changes in routine and activity demands, changes in work/academic demands, identify new and exciting meaningful activities and find new social outlets. I want to help with the mental and emotional adjustment that comes with retirement or leaving a sport, your team, or the spotlight.
Let's get started!
